Stardew Valley: How To Befriend The Dwarf

This updated guide will help you navigate the intricacies of forming a bond with this mysterious character.

Meeting The Dwarf

To encounter the Dwarf, head to the mines and locate a large boulder to the right of the entrance on the first floor. You can shatter this obstacle using a copper pickaxe or better, or opt for a more explosive approach with a bomb. Once the boulder is gone, venture a short distance to the right, and you'll find the Dwarf in his quaint shop, ready to greet you with his unique charm.

Learn To Speak Dwarvish

Upon your initial meeting, you'll quickly realize that communication with the Dwarf is impossible without understanding his language. While you can offer gifts, they won't impact your friendship level until you can converse with him. To break this language barrier, you must collect all four Dwarf Scrolls, which are artifacts scattered throughout the game. Once you donate these to the Museum, Gunther will reward you with a Dwarvish Translation Guide.

With the guide in hand, return to the mines and speak to the Dwarf again. Now equipped with the ability to understand him, you can begin building a genuine friendship and even explore his shop's offerings.

Gift Guide

Just like with the other residents of Pelican Town, gifting is the key to winning over the Dwarf. You can give him up to two gifts per week, but remember that his birthday falls on Summer 22, when gifts will grant you eight times the usual friendship points.

Loved Gifts

These are the top-tier items that will boost your friendship with the Dwarf by 80 points each. Many of these treasures can be found while exploring the mines:

• Gemstones: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Jade, Ruby, Topaz, Emerald
• Lemon Stone
• Omni Geode
• Lava Eel
• All universal loves

Liked Gifts

These items, also often found in the mines, will increase your friendship by 45 points:

• All Universal Likes
• All Artifacts
• Cave Carrot
• Quartz

Disliked & Hated Gifts

Steer clear of these items, as they will negatively impact your friendship with the Dwarf:

• Mushrooms and all other foraged items.
• All universal hates, except for Artifacts.

Movie Theater Preferences

With the Movie Theater now a part of Stardew Valley, you can invite the Dwarf to join you for a cinematic experience. He's quite the movie buff, loving all film options, so you can't go wrong with your choice of movie. However, when it comes to snacks, the Dwarf has specific tastes. He Loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy, and Likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Other snacks, however, won't impress him, so choose wisely to maximize your friendship gains.
