IDW's enduring Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently celebrated a significant achievement with the release of its 75th issue. Sonic the Hedgehog #75 depicted the final confrontation between Team Sonic and the antagonist, Clutch, setting the stage for the suspenseful continuation, "Scattered Pieces."
"Scattered Pieces," spanning issues #76-80, is now unfolding. IGN exclusively unveils new artwork from the penultimate chapter, Sonic the Hedgehog #79, as part of IGN Fan Fest. The slideshow gallery below showcases three variant covers for #79, alongside previously released "Scattered Pieces" covers.
Sonic the Hedgehog #79, written by series veteran Ian Flynn, features interior art and the main cover by Adam Bryce Thomas, with variant covers by Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine.
IDW's official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog #79:
The long-standing rivalry between sharpshooter Whisper and stealth assassin Mimic culminates in a dramatic showdown!
Only one will emerge victorious! Can Tangle and Silver alter the course of the battle? Or will Whisper witness another friend caught in the crossfire? This thrilling conflict is the culmination of years of tension!
Flynn shared with IGN, "IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog has thrived for seven years, developing unique storylines, characters, and narrative threads. Many of these converged in Evan Stanley's recent arc. Reaching a climax is always satisfying, but I'm equally excited about the subsequent exploration. Many fans will be asking 'What's next?' My arc provides answers, offers some resolutions, and sets the groundwork for Evan's next major arc in the series."
Sonic the Hedgehog #76 is currently available, with #77 launching March 19th. Preorders are available at local comic shops (find a shop near you here).
IGN Fan Fest 2025 also offered an early glimpse at IDW's new Godzilla shared universe.
