The Parabolic Microphone falls under Optional Equipment in *Phasmophobia*, which means it's not automatically included in your default gear. To access this valuable tool for your investigations, you'll need to achieve a specific level to unlock and purchase it from the game's Shop portal.

Similar to other equipment in *Phasmophobia*, the Parabolic Microphone comes in three tiers, each increasing in quality and reliability. To unlock the first tier, you must reach Level 7 and then visit the shop to add it to your equipment loadout, as illustrated above.

The second tier becomes available at Level 31 and requires a $3,000 investment to upgrade. The third and highest tier unlocks at Level 72, costing $5,000. Once unlocked, you can choose any tier of the Parabolic Microphone and include up to two in your loadout, regardless of your party size.

Keep in mind, if you decide to Prestige your character, your level resets to 1, and you'll need to unlock each tier of the Parabolic Microphone again, along with all other equipment.

To utilize the Parabolic Microphone during your ghost-hunting contracts in *Phasmophobia*, you must first add it to your loadout through the Shop portal to ensure it's available in the truck upon arrival. Note that in Challenge Mode, the preset loadout might not include the Parabolic Microphone.

Once at the investigation site, select the Parabolic Microphone from the equipment wall in the truck to equip it, similar to other items. Use the designated button to turn it on or off. If you're using the tier 3 version, you'll benefit from the attached radar screen, which helps pinpoint the direction of sounds, as shown above.

On medium or large maps in *Phasmophobia*, the Parabolic Microphone is particularly useful for tracking the ghost's location by sound, offering an alternative to traditional methods like the temperature gauge or EMF Reader. It captures noises made by the ghost, such as objects being thrown, doors being moved, or the ghost's voice. Additionally, you might encounter an Optional Objective that requires you to record the ghost's voice using the Parabolic Microphone.

Certain ghosts, like the Deogen or Banshee, emit unique sounds that can only be detected with the Parabolic Microphone, aiding in their identification.

That wraps up the guide on using the Parabolic Microphone in *Phasmophobia*. For the latest guides and updates on the game, including all achievements and trophies and how to unlock them, be sure to visit The Escapist.

Phasmophobia is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
