Lies of P's upcoming DLC, Overture, marks a significant shift by introducing difficulty options for the first time. As a "Soulslike" game, Lies of P is known for its challenging gameplay, which can be daunting for players new to the genre, particularly those drawn in by its intriguing dark narrative and setting. Initially, director Jiwon Choi expressed that the team believed Soulslike games should not have difficulty options, and the game launched without them. However, after careful consideration of player feedback, Neowiz has decided to implement these changes.

“We wanted to ensure that a broader audience could enjoy the game,” Choi explained to VGC. “By incorporating feedback from both our customers and developers, we're able to adjust the development and introduce difficulty options. This allows us to cater to different types of players and expand our player base.”

The community has mixed reactions to this development. Some players appreciate the inclusivity, with one stating: "I would imagine it's a lot easier to say that you don't want to change the difficulty than to face constant criticism and negative reviews. It's important to make the game accessible to a wider audience." Another player shared their personal experience: "I started gaming later in life at 24. I use the easier settings because, despite loving Lies of P, I'm still working on my skills. It's great to have options that let me enjoy the game at my own pace."

However, not everyone is thrilled about the change. Some feel it dilutes the game's original challenge, with comments like: "Was interested in playing, but after all the nerfs and adding difficulty levels, I lost interest. Game devs, please stop catering to beginners," appearing on discussion forums. Another user lamented, "You had a masterpiece on your hands, Neowiz, and you turned it into a laughing stock. For shame." Despite these criticisms, many players support the developer's decision, as seen in the supportive replies to these threads.

Lies of P offers a unique take on the Pinocchio story, blending it with challenging action gameplay and a dynamic "lie" system that impacts the game's progression. The new Overture DLC promises new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, along with a new mode called Death March, which allows players to challenge the game's bosses again. The DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete and will unlock after reaching a specific chapter. Neowiz has also announced a full sequel to Lies of P.

Our review of Lies of P was positive, awarding it an 8/10: "Lies of P might not stray far from its Soulslike roots, but it excels in delivering a compelling experience."
