7 Days To Die offers diverse mission types, with infested missions standing out as particularly challenging yet rewarding. This guide details how to tackle these missions effectively, maximizing your XP, loot, and rare item acquisition.
Infested missions become available after completing 10 Tier 1 missions, unlocking Tier 2 access. These missions are significantly harder than standard clear missions, featuring increased zombie numbers and tougher enemy types like radiated zombies, cops, and ferals. Tier 6 missions represent the ultimate challenge, but offer correspondingly better rewards. Regardless of tier, the objective remains consistent: eliminate all enemies within a designated area. Find a trader (Rekt, Jen, Bob, Hugh, or Joe) to initiate the mission; mission difficulty scales with tier and biome.
Upon reaching the Point of Interest (POI), activate the mission marker. Leaving the POI or dying results in mission failure. The game often guides you down a specific path, often marked by lighting. Avoid this path to bypass potential traps. Carry building blocks to escape unexpected pitfalls or create alternative routes for surprise attacks. Zombies are indicated by red dots on the screen; size correlates to proximity. Prioritize headshots, and be aware of special zombie abilities:
Zombie Type | Abilities | Countermeasures |
---|---|---|
Cops | Spit toxic vomit, explode when injured | Observe their pre-spit head-throw; maintain distance; avoid blast radius. |
Spiders | Jump long distances | Listen for their screech before jumping; prepare for quick headshots. |
Screamers | Summon other zombies | Prioritize eliminating them to prevent overwhelming hordes. |
Demolition Zombies | Carry explosive packages | Avoid hitting their chest; run if the explosive starts beeping. |
The final room typically holds high-tier loot, but also a large number of zombies. Ensure you're fully healed, weapons are loaded and durable, and you know the escape route before entering.
Once all zombies are eliminated, report back to the trader to claim your reward. Don't forget to collect the infested cache, containing valuable ammo, magazines, and other high-quality items.
Rewards are randomized, influenced by game stage, loot stage, mission tier, and skill points. Boost your loot stage with the "Lucky Looter" skill and the Treasure Hunter mod. Higher tiers yield better rewards. The "A Daring Adventurer" perk is crucial; at rank 4, it allows you to select two rewards instead of one. Sell any unwanted items to the trader for additional XP (1XP per Duke earned).
