God of War fans have unleashed their fury, review-bombing God of War Ragnarok on Steam due to Sony's controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement.
Since its recent launch on PC via Steam, God of War Ragnarok has been met with a 'mixed' user score. The game has faced a wave of negative reviews from fans upset over Sony's requirement for a PSN account to play the single-player action-adventure title. Released just last week, the game currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.
Sony's announcement that a PSN account is necessary to play God of War Ragnarok on PC has left many fans frustrated and appears to be the driving force behind the review-bombing campaign.
While the majority of reviews are negative, some players have reported being able to play the game without linking a PSN account. One player shared, "I understand the frustration with the PlayStation account requirement. It's annoying when developers force online features into a single-player game. But I was able to play without logging in. It's a shame because these reviews might deter people from experiencing an amazing game."
Another player expressed their disappointment, stating, "The PSN account requirement ruins the excitement. I launched the game and logged in, but it got stuck on a black screen. It even shows I played for 1 hour and 40 minutes, which is ridiculous."
Despite the backlash, some players have left positive reviews, praising the game's quality while acknowledging that the negative feedback is primarily due to Sony's decision. One reviewer noted, "The story is as good as expected. The negative reviews are mostly about the PSN requirement. Sony needs to reconsider this policy. Otherwise, the game is top-notch on PC."
Sony encountered a similar issue with Helldivers 2 earlier this year when it initially required a PSN account to play the shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. Following significant backlash, Sony reversed its decision and removed the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2.
