The DOOM franchise's adaptability continues to amaze, with recent experiments pushing its boundaries. NyanSatan, a tech enthusiast, successfully ran the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
The adapter, as the creator notes, utilizes iOS-based firmware and a processor clocking up to 168 MHz. NyanSatan accessed the firmware and executed the game, using a MacBook for data transfer due to the adapter's lack of internal memory.
Shifting focus to a new DOOM iteration, DOOM: The Dark Ages will offer players unprecedented control over difficulty. Demon aggression can be adjusted in the game's settings, reflecting a design philosophy focused on accessibility. DOOM: The Dark Ages will boast significantly more customization options than previous id Software titles.
Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the game's accessibility. Players will be able to tweak enemy damage and overall difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader aspects like game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing.
Furthermore, Stratton confirmed that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
