Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has unexpectedly received a minor update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This small patch, primarily focused on bug fixes and language updates, has caught players off guard. Released in late 2016, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding on the original's acclaimed gameplay and intricate level design, exemplified by missions like "The Clockwork Mansion" and "A Crack in the Slab."

While developer Arkane Lyon is currently engrossed in the development of Marvel's Blade, the update's arrival is noteworthy given the circumstances. The closure of Arkane Austin in 2024, impacting the development pipeline for future Arkane titles, adds context to this seemingly minor update. Arkane Austin's portfolio included the original Dishonored, Prey, and the less-well-received Redfall.

The Dishonored 2 update, weighing in at a mere 230MB on Steam, requires a full 40GB re-download on Xbox. SteamDB indicates modifications to the game's language files.

No 60 FPS Boost (Yet?)

The lack of a highly anticipated 60 FPS mode has disappointed some players. Unlike other Arkane titles that offer 60 FPS performance on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. Even the original Dishonored and its spin-off, Death of the Outsider, benefit from performance enhancements on current-gen consoles. The possibility of a 60 FPS patch for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains speculative, though a dedicated patch might not be sufficient to appease long-term expectations.

The future of the Dishonored franchise remains uncertain, with a third mainline installment potentially years away, if at all. The closure of Arkane Austin significantly impacts Arkane's development capacity. For now, Arkane Lyon's focus remains on its upcoming Marvel's Blade project, with no confirmed release date.
