Confidential details about a developer-exclusive playtest for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 were inadvertently made public to all fans through the Call of Duty app. The leak included information about unannounced multiplayer modes, including a 20v20 wingsuit option. An unfortunate mistake.
"An internal, developer-only Black Ops 7 playtest was scheduled to begin this weekend," reported CharlieIntel on X/Twitter. "[Activision or the developers Treyarch/Raven Software] accidentally sent the daily message to all Xbox users on the Call of Duty app instead of the intended audience."
CharlieIntel also shared previously undisclosed details about the multiplayer modes Skirmish and Overload.
A screenshot detailing Skirmish explained: "Two teams of 20 battle to complete objectives across an expansive map. Capture strategic points, destroy payloads, and transmit valuable intel to earn points. Utilize your wingsuit to flank enemies and secure objectives swiftly. The first team to reach the target score wins the match."
The other mode, Overload, is described as "two six-player teams competing to control a neutral EMP device, which must be delivered to the enemy headquarters to score. Secure victory by reaching the score cap through the successful delivery of multiple EMP devices."
An internal, developer only Black Ops 7 play test was set to begin this weekend. They accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox on the Call of Duty app, instead.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — which was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 earlier this month — marks the first consecutive release within the Black Ops sub-series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, emphasized that "from the outset, our team's vision was to craft a seamless, back-to-back series experience for our players that fully captures the distinctive essence of the Black Ops franchise."
Black Ops 7 will feature Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker in starring roles. Ventimiglia plays David Mason, Shipka portrays the new character Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns as Mike Harper, reprising his role from Black Ops 2.
Earlier this month, Activision removed controversial advertisements that appeared within Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts, stating they were part of a "feature test" that was published "in error." It's important to note that Black Ops 6 is a premium title priced at $70, and this year's Black Ops 7 is expected to increase to $80 following Microsoft's announcement that new first-party Xbox games will be priced at $79.99 during the holiday season.
And on a related note, Beavis and Butt-Head are now available as operators in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
