Insider Daniel Richtman has stirred excitement by claiming that the next installment is not only in development but has already cast its actors, with some scenes reportedly filmed.

Given the somewhat ambiguous earlier statement from Naughty Dog's director, these rumors might carry some weight. When Druckmann mentioned there would be "no next *The Last of Us*", he could have been alluding to a sequel already in the works.
